In explosive evidence, Shane Drumgold SC said a series of "strange events" occurred throughout the case, leading him to believe "federal interference" was involved.
Drumgold appeared to be inferring involvement from Liberal senator and former minister Linda Reynolds.
"Some of the questions in my mind hypothetically were: was this at the time a government minister exerting pressure through the AFP commissioner onto ACT Policing to make a matter go away?" Drumgold told the inquiry.
Drumgold was asked if he believed a "political conspiracy" was possible.
He replied, "I thought that there were instances to make it possible if not probable".
In a statement, Reynolds categorically rejected the assertion.
"This suggestion is baseless and without foundation," she said.
"I consider it an affront to my reputation".
Lehrmann was never found guilty of any charge and has always denied the allegations.
