Queensland firefighters bring major blaze threatening properties under control

Queensland firefighters have brought a major blaze under control, which had earlier been threatening homes west of the Gold Coast.
Residents in parts of the Scenic Rim were originally told on Friday evening to seek shelter as the blaze had the potential to turn deadly.
Now authorities say residents can "return with caution" to their properties.

"The fire along Schubel Road is now under control and will continue to burn for several days," the updated advice said.
"It is travelling slowly‎ towards Mount French Road. Firefighters are on site."
Water bombers were used to attack the fire from above, along with more than two dozen crews who worked to bring the fire under control from the ground.
Authorities say there has been damage done to the area, after the flames destroyed a farm shed but a house on the property was spared.
