A cyclist has died in a collision with a ute just outside Point Pirie, 230 kilometres north-west of Adelaide.
The 72-year-old man was riding down Abbatoirs Road when he collided with a Mitsubishi ute. The Risdon Park man died at the scene.
It's understood the rider was part of a local group also involved in a devastating 2016 crash in nearby Solomontown when a truck ploughed into them, killing one of the riders.
"It really concerns me because we're still not over the tragic event of three years ago and here we are again," local man Leon said.
The driver of the ute, a 30-year-old Port Pirie West man, was not injured and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Roads were closed between the Spencer Highway and Waits Road, but these have since reopened.
The council is now looking to improve safety along the stretch of road.
Police said they already have plans in progress.
"We're doing more than we did last year in terms of managing road user behaviour and educating the community," Commissioner Grant Stevens said.
South Australia's road toll continues to climb well past last year's.
Today's death marks the 91st life lost on the state's roads this year, compared to 71 for all of 2022.
