Is there anything better than a public holiday?
In the middle of nowhere, you've got a day off, or even better, a long weekend.
But not all states and territories are created equal.
For those of us who love to put our feet up, some places have more days off than others.
Click through to see Australia's states, ranked by how many public holidays they have.
In last place is New South Wales.
New South Wales has the Easter long weekend, Christmas and Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Australia Day and Anzac Day.
The King's Birthday is marked in June, and Labour Day in October.
All up, it's 11 days off.
Technically tied for last place is Western Australia.
But most West Australians are better off than New South Welshmen.
There are 11 public holidays out west, but there isn't an Easter Saturday public holiday.
Given it's a Saturday, most people have the day off anyway.
WA also celebrates the King's Birthday later in the year, but Labour Day is marked in March.
It also celebrates Western Australia Day, which oddly enough, is not celebrated elsewhere.
Queensland has the third least public holidays with eleven and a half.
The Sunshine state marks Labour Day in May and the King's Birthday in October.
Easter Saturday is marked as "the day after Good Friday".
Queenslanders also enjoy a half-day on Christmas Eve.
And those in Brisbane have a half-day in August for the Royal Queensland Show.
The Northern Territory has the equal fourth least public holidays.
The Top End has a part-day for both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.
It also marks May Day in May and Picnic Day in August.
But Easter Sunday is not a formal public holiday, though the Friday, Saturday and Monday are.
South Australia is tied with the NT with eleven full days off, and two part days.
As well as half-days on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, it formally celebrates the day after Christmas as "Proclamation Day".
There is a March public holiday for the Adelaide Cup, a horse race.
The King's Birthday is in June and Labour Day is in October.
Tasmania has the third highest number of public holidays with 12.
But the state is split in two when it comes to certain days off.
Hobart residents get a day off in February for the Royal Hobart Regatta.
And non-Hobart residents get a day off in November called "Recreation Day".
Easter Saturday and Sunday are not public holidays, but they have a day off for Easter Tuesday.
There's also a day off on the second Monday in March called Eight Hours Day.
Equal top is the ACT.
Residents in the capital enjoy a public holiday named Canberra Day in March, and Reconciliation Day in May.
Labour Day is in October and the King's Birthday is in June.
But you are actually better off living in Tasmanians, unless you work weekends.
While the full four-day weekend for Easter is counted in the ACT, Tasmanians usually have more weekends off.
In the equal top place is Victoria.
Victorians have a day off for Melbourne Cup, though Geelong residents often have the day substituted for the Geelong Cup.
The Friday before the AFL grand final is also a public holiday.
Labour Day is in March and the King's Birthday is in June.
