Police are investigating an attack on top Darwin jockey Sonja Wiseman, in which she was allegedly hit in the face with a rock, causing her to lose two teeth.
Northern Territory Police has confirmed to 9news.com.au they are investigating the alleged aggravated assault on the Stuart Highway in The Narrows about 12.30am on Friday.
"A 31-year-old woman was allegedly struck in the head with a rock as she sat within her vehicle," a police spokesperson said.
In an interview with Racenet, Sonja Wiseman said a group of 10 to 15 men surrounded the car, trying to pull her car doors open as she sat inside.
"These men were literally like a pack of coyotes going on a hunt," she said.
"I was screaming, I knew it was going to be bad. My partner (Darwin trainer Tommy Logan) was asleep in the house, I called Triple 0.
"They then smashed me in the face with a rock, broke my nose in three places, cut my lip and smashed my teeth. I tried to drive off the wrong way down the Highway, but a group of them blocked me."
Wiseman said the attack only ended when security guards at a nearby Army barracks heard her car horn honking and came to her rescue.
Police confirmed she was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital to be treated for injuries to her face.
They have called for anyone with information about the attack to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference 10411336.
