'First start to winter': Cold blast to bring icy conditions to four states

An icy cold front will bring the nation's first real taste of winter later this week, causing temperatures to plummet and wet weather across the south-east.
Victoria, NSW, South Australia, ACT and Tasmania will experience an icy blast as the system sweeps across the country.
Bureau meteorologist Jackson Browne said Melbourne and Sydney will see their coldest days on Friday.

"It is a decent drop...It is that first start to winter," Mr Browne told Today.
"We're seeing that front move through parts of Victoria today. That will lead to some cooler temperatures later in the week with it getting down to 9C by Friday morning.
"Sydney...they'll get their coldest day on Friday. It will be a solidly wet week for Sydney with the cold front moving through later this week and then it will be replaced by a high pressure system which will drive moisture to the coast."

Sydney has a minimum of 16C forecast on Friday, while Hobart and Canberra will both experience an icy low of 7C. Temperatures will drop to 11C in Adelaide.
The return of the rain — and cold snap — comes after a spate of sunny weather over the Easter long weekend.
That sun was short lived for Victoria, which saw a "wet Easter Monday".
The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) said falls of 15-20 mm fell across central Victoria and the Wimmera region and more was on the way.
The highest total was seen in Trentham, with 26mm recorded to 9am this morning.
Melbourne recorded 13mm.
The BoM also said a trough moving across inland NSW could bring heavy rainfall and potentially severe thunderstorms to the region today.
