A passing motorist who stopped to offer assistance after witnessing a car crash on a Melbourne freeway has been carjacked.
Police believe a vehicle bearing stolen plates side-swiped a truck before rolling and crashing into a barrier on the Princes Freeway at Laverton North about 12.15am.
Three offenders managed to escape the vehicle, which quickly caught fire.
A motorist pulled over and stopped to offer assistance to the trio, before the offenders allegedly stole his Mercedes sedan.
The victim was not physically injured, as police continue to investigate the incident.
Anyone who spots the black 2012 Mercedes with registration 1SR9OX should call Triple-Zero.
