Three states have been slapped with severe weather warnings as "dangerous winds" developing ahead of a blustery cold front.
Destructive winds of up to 125km/h could lash parts of Tasmania this morning as a cold front crosses Australia's southern states.
The Bureau of Meteorology have also issued severe weather warnings covering eastern Victoria, and southeast NSW, including the Central Tablelands and Illawarra and Tasmania.
There was a possibility of "destructive wind gusts" of up to 100-125km/h for Tasmania with eastern Victoria expected to see peak gusts in excess of 90km/h.
The strong gusts are due to a high-pressure system passing over southern Western Australia, as a cold front also passes over the east of Tasmania.
Tasmania has been warned of locally destructive wind gusts for the Western Tiers from mid morning.
Hobart can also expect a morning shower, with a top of 13 degrees.
Victoria will see winds develop further in the far east this morning, particularly near the coastal areas, such as Mallacoota.
There is also a gale warning in place for the Central Coast, Central Gippsland Coast and East Gippsland Coast.
Showers will be easing for Melbourne today, with a top of 15 degrees.
Meanwhile, strong and gusty westerly winds are developing over south eastern parts of New South Wales.
Westerly damaging winds averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely over parts of the Snowy Mountains, South Coast, Central and Southern Tablelands, and Illawarra districts this morning.
There's also a severe weather warning for damaging surf for Lord Howe Island for today and tomorrow.
A strong cold front will generate "large and powerful" waves today, with significant wave heights exceeding five metres expected from tomorrow morning.
Sydney will be partly cloudy with winds today, and a top of 19 degrees.
It will be a calm end to the weekend for Brisbane with a top of 22 degrees, Darwin will see a maximum temperature of 30 degrees, and in Perth the mercury will climb to 23 degrees.
Winds will ease across Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales this afternoon and evening as the cold front moves further away and high pressure takes over.
