A man allegedly responsible for 10 armed bank robberies over a decade has been charged by police in South Australia.
Detectives arrested the 73-year-old man, who is also known as the 'bicycle bandit', at his home at O'Sullivan's Beach, south of Adelaide on Friday.
He has been charged with a series of bank robberies, and one attempted bank robbery across the state between 2004 and 2014.
Detective Superintendent Billy Thompson said over the 20-year investigation, investigators left no stone unturned.
"Over the course of a decade, it is alleged this person committed 10 significant bank robberies, stealing substantial amounts of cash," he said.
"Police identified connections between the robberies early in the investigation and established Operation Coy, since that time detectives attached to Operation Coy have been painstaking in their investigations, seizing on every opportunity to advance the investigation and identify a suspect.
"The arrest on Friday is a direct result of all the collective work over the last 19 years."
The first robbery took place in May 2004 at an ANZ branch in Mannum, about 84 kilometres east of Adelaide, with the last occurring at a Bank SA branch in Mt Pleasant, in September 2014.
Police have said it's believed more than $250,000 was stolen between the robberies.
The 73-year-old man will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court tomorrow.
