A man has died after a mother is fighting for life in hospital after a suspected domestic violence attack in Darwin's northern suburbs.
Police were called to a home on Sprigg Street in Millner at around 6.30pm on Tuesday.
A 38-year-old woman was rushed to Royal Darwin Hospital with a gunshot wound to her stomach, where she remains in a critical condition.
The suspected shooter, a 35-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene while a gun was found lying near his body.
9News understands his two brothers and mother were also home at the time and performed CPR before paramedics arrived.
"It's obviously distressing for family members and friends of the persons involved and obviously a confronting scene for first responders," Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Morrissey said.
Neighbours say the pair had split up in recent months and that the woman had not been living at the address at the time of the shooting, but had returned to collect her belongings.
Kim Leonard-Bond lives across the road and has known the family for years.
She was sitting down for dinner last night when she heard two bangs, followed by yelling.
"(It's) just all really tragic because they've got a one-year-old so now she has no dad," she said.
"I'm really upset about it, I've known those kids since they were young."
Paulo Mu runs the local corner store and said he's also watched the three boys grow up.
"They're regular customers, they've been coming in since they were little," he said.
"It's pretty shocking."
Just two hours before the Millner shooting, police were called to a second, unrelated incident in Karama.
A 63-year-old man was found dead with gunshot wounds.
Police seized a firearm at the scene and while investigations are ongoing, it's not believed to be suspicious.
