Damian Ryan began his career in journalism in 1980, working for Radio 2WG in Wagga Wagga.

After four years with 2WG, he moved to Radio 2GB in Sydney in 1984.

In 1990, Ryan made the transition from radio to television, taking a job as a general reporter at Channel Ten in Sydney.

In 1994, he joined Nine News as a reporter. In 1999, he was posted to London as Nine’s European correspondent.

That year, he received a Walkley Award for television reporting for his coverage of the Interlarken tragedy in Switzerland, where 21 lives, including 14 Australians, were lost in a canyoning accident.

He was Nine's European correspondent until 2002, when he returned to Nine's Sydney newsroom as a reporter.

Damian Ryan is married with three children.
