Police investigating suspicious NSW bushfire that burnt thousands of hectares

Police are appealing for public help over a suspicious bushfire on the New South Wales Mid North Coast that burnt through thousands of hectares.
At about 4pm last Tuesday, October 17, emergency services were called to McGuires Crossing Road at Belmore River – about 15km east of Kempsey – following reports of a bushfire.
The blaze, which has been brought under control, swept through nearly 3,000 hectares of bushland in the Hat Head National Park.

Police launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which they believe was suspicious.
Detectives are keen to speak with the driver of a white Nissan Patrol tabletop ute, with a broken taillight, which was seen in the area about 3pm that day.
Police are also investigating if the fire has any links to fires on Lighthouse Road at Arakoon and blazes at Maria River Road and Crescent Head Road at Crescent Head, between 6am and 8am on October 17.
Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
