Respected Australian news broadcaster Rob Readings dies at 79
One of Australia's most respected broadcasters has died after months of illness, aged 79.
Jonathan Uptin, 9News Queensland sports presenter, has been part of the Australian media landscape for more than two decades.
After graduating with a communications degree from the University of Canberra in 1993, Uptin was a TV reporter for five years for NBN in Newcastle and Darwin and Prime Television in Orange.
In 1998, he became a sports presenter for National Nine Early Morning News.
In 2000, Uptin began reading for Nine News Darwin where he worked for 17 years.
In 2017, Uptin accepted the opportunity to present the eight Nine Local News bulletins for Regional Queensland and Darwin alongside Samantha Heathwood, broadcasting to a potential audience of 1.8 million viewers.
He is a father of three and a keen rugby league supporter who also enjoys golf.
