A proud South Australian, Kate Collins has been part of the Nine News team for more than 10 years and presents Adelaide’s only one-hour 6pm bulletin alongside Brenton Ragless.

“We aren’t restricted by time, so we can provide more news and more in depth stories, not just locally, but nationally and internationally,” Kate said.

“Here at Nine, we have always been hard workers, always willing to pitch in and get the job done and we are united in bringing Adelaide the best news service.”

Prior to joining Channel 9 Adelaide in 2006, Kate completed a Bachelor of Media at Adelaide University and a postgraduate Diploma in Journalism at the University of South Australia.

While completing her studies, she worked as a weekend newsreader on radio before making the switch to TV, joining the Nine News team as a general reporter.

She recalls her early days in the Nine newsroom, working alongside news-reading legends Rob Kelvin and the late Kevin Crease.

“Kevin was an incredible mentor to young journalists, he really wanted to see you flourish,” Kate said.

“He and Rob were very kind to me. Kevin always gave me pointers and guided me through my first few months. I was very fortunate to have him around.”

Married in early 2014 to Leigh, the couple had their first child, Harvey in February 2015 and welcomed their second, Eddie, in January 2018.

Kate is a passionate ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis SA, Childhood Cancer Association, Playgroup SA and Barkuma Inc.
